Since before the pandemic, Samsung has been the most prominent producer of foldable phones. In 2023, it’s finally starting to get some competition. The Google Pixel Fold just launched, and OnePlus is expected to reveal its first foldable soon. You won’t have to wait to glimpse this phone—a new leak has revealed the design, and Samsung better watch out.
The image is a render but not an official one. The leak comes from OnLeaks (via MySmartPrice), who has a long history of creating accurate smartphone renders based on leaked CAD files. These reports can include a few details on the hardware, usually in the form of physical measurements. Still, there are always some parts of the design (like materials and camera module layout) that are, at best, educated guesses.
Rumors currently point to the phone being dubbed the OnePlus V Fold, and it could have a 7.8-inch inner folding display. On the outside, there will be a second screen, this one believed to be 6.3 inches. Both screens will support a 120Hz refresh rate, matching the specs of the latest Samsung foldable.
The render shows the phone’s incredibly slim chassis, which appears to support a completely flat folded shape. Samsung foldables like the Galaxy Z Fold 4 taper slightly toward the hinge, leaving a small gap so as not to trap dust. However, this also means a deep, distinct crease on the foldable screen. Unfortunately, the OnLeaks render can’t tell us anything about how the screen will look on the real phone.

OnePlus has experienced a tumultuous couple of years as it tightened bonds with parent company Oppo. After several underwhelming devices, the OnePlus 11 is a triumph, and the V Fold will borrow some hardware from that phone. Inside, the V Fold will reportedly have a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and if it’s anything like the company’s other phones, it will stay frosty and fast even under intense usage. The phone will also have a triple camera array with a 48MP primary, 48MP ultrawide, and 64MP telephoto lens.
While this is OnePlus’ first foldable, Oppo has released several. The alleged specs of the OnePlus V Fold don’t match any of Oppo’s foldables, but the design expertise from devices like the Oppo Find N2 will undoubtedly inform the design of the OnePlus V Fold. We don’t have a price or release date yet, but the company is expected to unveil the phone in the coming weeks.
